Greenland Passage

Greenland Passage was one of the first major developments in the Surrey Quays. Two blocks were built, one either side of the old Greenland Lock. The lock was re-furbished and the old Greenland Dock now contains private sailing boats.

Model of the Greenland Passage development

The development was a joint venture between Macintosh Haines & Kennedy, ISLEF (Denmark) and Danish Architects, Hence the names of the various blocks.

When this development was built in the early 1980's, certain bricks were very difficult to obtain. The left hand block in the above picture was built using Danish bricks. They were shipped across the North Sea, up The Thames and unloaded right by the site.
